The banks were lined with these yesterday.
Any of you use spider patterns?

That one looks quite scary... good macro-shot by the way!

Hi Len,
here, with us, by now, temperatures are getting rather low, so actually you dont watch a lot of spiders, no "Indian Summer". Rather early this year. Today, when driving to my workingplace I notized that the snowfall in the mountains had gone down to about 1200m. I`m a bit worried about my chilies, they would still need a few sunny days! In a fourtnight we have an annual meeting with some friends for flyfishing in the `White Traun`near Ruhpolding, which I´m looking forward to with great joy.
On topic, I didn`t try to ty spider patterns till now, but this winter I will do, simply to get some practice in tying insect legs,

That's a St. Andrew's Cross spider. They get quite big and look menacing, but are in fact harmless.
I fish spider patterns a lot. Either foam spiders (floating) or sinking cap spiders I tie on a 1/64oz jig head. Both are very productive for me on a variety of fish from bream to bass.
I'm in South Louisiana and I use these spider patterns in freshwater swamps and bayous, oxbow lakes, usually around the cypress trunks.
